Hiring with Gem
Gem lets hiring managers engage in the hiring process by giving them full visibility into what’s happening with candidates in all stages of the hiring process (including outreach), and allowing them to collaborate with recruiters for a seamless process and a great candidate experience. For example, with a sourcing solution that displays the entirety of a prospect’s or candidate’s historic activity, HMs don’t have to worry that they’re stepping on recruiters’ toes if there’s someone they want to reach out to.

Hiring Manager Review
Gem’s Resume Review allows talent teams and hiring managers to calibrate on profiles from the very beginning, so recruiters can better understand what their hiring managers’ ideal candidate looks like. With Resume Review, the picture becomes clearer for recruiters, because hiring managers are asked to articulate what they’re looking for or why a particular prospect is not very compelling to them from the beginning.
When a recruiter submits batches of prospects for your review, you’ll get an email from Gem with a direct link to the review section of Gem. The recruiter also has the ability to deliver a note in that email to provide more context for the review. Follow the link to start reviewing.
For each prospective candidate, you’ll have the option to rate them with a pass, check, or star. You can also leave a note on an individual level to provide context to your decision. Once you have completed all of the reviews, Gem will automatically send an email to the recruiter with your ratings and notes.
Sending on behalf of a hiring manager has been shown to double response rates for email sequences. SOBO allows recruiters and hiring managers to collaborate on outreach to whatever degree the HM wants to be involved. When recruiters use SOBO, it means the hiring manager no longer needs to create independent outreach to candidates on more difficult positions to fill.
With Gem, there are two ways for recruiters to send on behalf of hiring managers (or C-levels, or anyone else in the company, for that matter). They can create an alias and set up email forwarding, in which case the message looks like it comes from the HM, but replies go directly to the recruiter. They can also request “Send From” access, in which case, replies go directly back to the HM, who then takes charge of the correspondence.
Option 2 requires your one-time permission. When a teammate wants access to send on your behalf, you’ll receive an email with a direct link to approve their access. This can be turned off any time you choose from the settings in Gem. When a candidate replies to outreach that’s been sent on your behalf, the reply will come back to you, but the recruiter will also be notified of their reply. Connect with your colleague to decide on who should send the follow-up.
Projects are a great way to organize your talent pool for easy management. Our recommended best practice is to align a project with a job role you are recruiting for and name the project appropriately.
Recruiters can share entire projects with their hiring managers. Once the project is shared, you can add candidates from the project to one of your own projects, start a sequence with the candidates in that project, leave notes on candidates, or jump into candidates’ LinkedIn profiles. You can also track the project to see how many prospects have been contacted and how those outreach efforts have fared in terms of open rates and reply rates.
