Sequences help automate your outreach and followups to hundreds of candidates. However, if you try to reach out to too many people at once, you may hit Gmail's rate limits.
Past a certain amount of messages, Gmail will think you're sending spam and won't send all your messages. We have some clever engineering to make Gmail think you're sending the messages manually, but as a best practice, we don't recommend sending more than a few hundred sequences per day.
Because Gem sends your emails through your Gmail account, Gem is subject to your Gmail sending limits (including rate-limiting). In addition to the total number of messages you send in a 24-hour period, Google also monitors the rate at which messages are sent through your account messages. You can learn more about Google's account limits here. This means Google may limit your account if you send a high volume of messages in a short period of time.
If you want to send to more than a few hundred recipients, we recommend sending in batches, a few days apart. You can also send from multiple Gmail accounts (e.g. by sharing a project with a teammate and having them send a sequence).
Google looks at a number of factors to determine how many messages you can send. For example:
-
A high bounce rate will lead to stricter sending rates.
-
Sending a large volume of emails in a short period of time. You can send up to 2000 emails per day through Gmail, but not all at once.
-
When candidates mark your emails as spam by clicking "Mark as spam", Gmail penalizes you by reducing your sending quota by ~100 emails.
